If you had shown me a photo from 2016 and asked me what I was worried about back then, the answer would’ve been pretty simple: diapers, strollers, and car seats.
That photo still sticks with me. We were a family of five, right before a hike at Corbett’s Glen. I remember it like it was yesterday. At the time, life felt busy — but manageable in a very specific, young-family kind of way.
Fast forward to today, and things look very different.
We’re now a family of six.
We live in a different home.
We drive different vehicles.
One of our kids has a driver’s permit, and we’re doing college tours.
If you’re a parent, you know how this goes. You blink… and suddenly everything changes.
Life Changes Faster Than We Realize
What hits me the most when I look back at that 2016 photo isn’t just how much the kids have grown — it’s how quickly life itself evolves.
Homes change.
Cars change.
Careers change.
Families grow.
But here’s what often doesn’t change nearly as fast:
👉 Insurance coverage
As an insurance agent, I see this all the time. People set up their policies during one season of life and then… never touch them again.
And honestly, that’s understandable. Insurance isn’t exactly something people are excited to think about. But that’s also why regular reviews matter so much.
What Is an Insurance Review (and Why It Matters)?
An insurance review is simply a conversation — taking a fresh look at your policies and asking:
- Does this still match our life today?
- Are we properly covered if something happens?
- Are there discounts we’re missing?
- Are there coverages we no longer need?
- Could small changes actually save money?
Here’s the big misconception I want to clear up:
A review does NOT automatically mean higher premiums.
In fact, many times it’s the opposite.
Reviews Often Lead to Better Coverage and Savings
When we sit down with clients for a review, we often find opportunities to:
- Adjust deductibles in a smart way
- Add discounts that weren’t available before
- Update coverage limits to reflect current home values
- Properly insure teen drivers (this one is huge)
- Remove outdated or unnecessary coverage
Sometimes the result is better protection.
Sometimes it’s savings.
Often, it’s both.
But most importantly, it’s confidence — knowing that if something happens, your insurance is actually going to be there when you need it.
Why “Cheapest” Isn’t Always Best
Let’s be honest: insurance is expensive. No one loves paying for it.
But paying less doesn’t help if your coverage doesn’t respond when you file a claim. Most people would rather pay a little more and know they’re properly protected than save a few dollars and find out too late that something wasn’t covered.
Insurance isn’t about hoping you never use it.
It’s about making sure it works when life happens.
When Was Your Last Review?
If it’s been:
- Several years
- Since you bought your home
- Since you added a vehicle
- Since your kids grew up (or started driving)
- Or yes… since 2016
It’s probably time for a review.
Life doesn’t stand still — and your insurance shouldn’t either.
If you haven’t heard from your insurance agent in a while, or if you’re not sure your coverage still fits your life today, reach out and start the conversation. It could make a bigger difference than you think.
